Being a Yielded Vessel of God’s (John 15)

Many years back, a prophet named Richard Knight shared an analogy about operating in the prophetic that was so profound it has stuck with me a decade and a half later. He likened operating in the prophetic to being a postman. It’s our job to deliver the message – that’s it. The postman isn’t responsible for making sure bills are paid. They aren’t on the hook for ensuring RSVPs are sent out. They aren’t even responsible for making sure mail is retrieved from the mailbox. They simply deliver it.

In the same way, it is not our job to convince someone of the accuracy of the word we’ve given, or to try to force them to receive it. It’s not our job to explain to them what it means (unless that is part of the original message God gave you to share), nor is it our job help them implement it or make sure they do. It is our job to deliver the message as we received it. No more. No less.

Think about Jesus’ time in ministry. Think of all the things He shared. Not once do we see Him begging people to believe Him, or trying to convince people what He said was true. He let the power of the words speak for themselves. He relayed the what He got from the Father, and let what was said stand on its own. He let each person make their own decision whether to accept it or not. And He let them decide what to do with what they heard.

Further, He didn’t allow people’s rejection of His words to change His inherent value or the value of what He was saying. In the same way, refuse to allow people’s responses to you to mandate your worth. Or their lack of response or acceptance of what you share to somehow diminish the words you have spoken.

Simply be a vessel of truth. Let the Father determine your worth. Let the Father determine your acceptance. And let that be enough. Let the words He gives you to speak stand on their own. Don’t speak expecting that what you say won’t be received – assume positive intent. However, if they don’t listen, know you are in good company. Refuse to take offense, and simply focus on continuing obedience in your role as a yielded vessel of God’s.

John 15:18 (NASB) “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

John 15:20 (NASB) “Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
