Wait (Psalm 27:14)

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14

Wait: to anticipate, look eagerly for, hope, expect, linger for.

Waiting on the Lord. Lingering on Him. Linger means to tarry on, give extended time to, even to saunter. This makes me think of warm summer evenings just laying in the grass and talking softly with someone. Totally unaware of time. Just resting in the moment. Taking it all in and not wanting it to end. And the Lord wants that kind of moment with us. With me. Selah.

Those are precious intimate moments… in these moments we are restored (of good courage) and strengthened in our hearts – our inner man.

Waiting on the Lord. Anticipate the Lord, eagerly looking for Him. Watching for His leading. An active wait. Ready to jump into action. Like a doctor on call or a fireman on duty, ready to jump at a moment’s notice.

Wait on the Lord. Hope on Him. He is our inheritance. Remain in expectation for the fulfillment of His promises. Hope in Him. To cherish a desire with expectation, our desire being the Lord. To cherish the Lord with expectation. Expect in the Lord. Expect Him to be faithful. Expect Him to protect. Expect Him to have my best interests in mind. Expect Him to be mindful of all my needs. To place confidence or trust in the Lord. Hope in Him. Wait on Him.

Psalm 27:14 (Meghan expanded version)

Wait on the Lord. Tarry with Him. Linger with Him. Find strength in Him. Be built up in Him. Be restored in your inner man. Again I say, wait on the Lord. Anticipate Him. Eagerly watch for Him. Hope expectantly in Him. Put your full confidence in Him. Cherish Him with expectation.

Selah.

Yes Lord. I wait on You and all that entails. Your word is so deep we may drink and never go dry. Thank You. Thank You for the honor of lingering with You. Thank You for the blessing of Your faithfulness. You are such an ardent lover. Teach me to love like You. I want to be more like You. In Jesus’ name…

  1. I love this… it all so speaks to my heart right now. I have been in a place of waiting. I want to linger in his love and always anticipate a better way. And of course, hope in his faithfulness. A good word Meghan, and timely!

  2. It’s just so hard sometimes, Meghan. I woke up yesterday with the “attitude” of waiting and found myself in bed at 2:20pm with the “feeling” of disappointment. “Down” days for me are rare, but they usually come when I’ve been waiting so long and felt like there WAS no answer. But then the next day comes…the sun rises and I remember that joy comes in the morning and that there is no such thing as endless weeping (although I may have though otherwise the day before).
Today is His day and regardless of how I feel I must rejoice in it:) (‘just got a butt whoopin’ from Oswald:)
