Pruning (John 15:2)

God had me revisit John 15, which is the chapter about Him being the true vine (if you’re not familiar with it, consider giving it a read – it’s a great chapter). The thing that stood out to me was in verse 2, “…every branch that does bear fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

This verse is akin to the Lord chastens those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). We are not fond of this kind of love because it challenges us and can be painful. And yet the Lord very clearly tells us why He does it – so we can bear more fruit. This is why we should be eager to accept the Lord’s discipline (Proverbs 13:1).

Are there areas the Lord is pruning in you life?  If so, how are you responding to it?

Lord, help us to accept Your pruning with a joyful heart knowing You’re doing it in love and that it’s beneficial to us. We desire to be fruitful and trust Your hand in guiding us in this process. To You be the glory!

  1. Remindes me of the scripture “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16 and “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11

During my own personal times of struggle, I am always asking, “Why God, why?” “This hurts Lord, this hurts.” However, when I have leaned on Him for support, my heart is healed and I am strengthened more than before. I am a better person during the aftermath.

Thanks for reminding us Meghan…your blogs are always great!
