Woe: Trusting in Man (Isaiah 31:1, 3)

Sunday, 13 February 2011 | 2 Comments »

I chuckled a bit when I felt the nudge to blog on Isaiah 31 because it, like my last post, is on not trusting in man. I was like, “Yes Lord, I see the theme!”

Here is Isaiah 31:1, 3a (empasis mine)

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!

The Egyptians are man, and not God, and their horses are flesh, and not spirit. » more »

Trusting in Man (Genesis 40:14)

Sunday, 30 January 2011 | 3 Comments »

Recently I’ve been enjoying reading the Book of Jasher. Of the extra-biblical books referenced in the Word, it’s the only one still in existence. It is in essence a history book that spans from creation to the death of Joshua.

Let me be clear and say it is not the Bible, but given the way the Word refers to it, it could be likened to “suggested reading”. Its contents align with scripture and provide a historical context that I personally have found helpful. :)

With that introduction, I was reading the story of Joseph in Jasher and came to a point I’d wondered about before: where Joseph interprets the dreams for the cupbearer and baker and asks to be remembered. First, here is is in Genesis 40:14 LITV » more »

Hardened Hearts (Mark 6:51-52)

Sunday, 19 December 2010 | 5 Comments »

I was reading in Mark 6 (v30-52). First, the story about Jesus feeding the five thousand (please note that only referred to the number of men and did not include the women and children which would have made it many more). This story is followed by Jesus walking on the water. » more »

Friend of God (John 15:14)

Thursday, 2 December 2010 | 1 Comment »

God’s had me reading John 15:1-17 pretty much everyday for a couple months now. It’s interesting to see how He’ll highlight different words and passages each day. Today He highlighted verse 14:

You are my friends if you do what I command you. » more »

Not Fearing the Wind (Matthew 14:28-33)

Wednesday, 13 October 2010 | 6 Comments »

I’ve spent a lot of time pondering standing fast in the face of opposition. It actually is the reason for my most recent Dyed4you Art piece called Stand Fast. And today as I was reading the word, God highlighted it to me again. Here’s Matthew 14:28-33: » more »

Learning to Discern His Will (Rom 12:2)

Wednesday, 29 September 2010 | 10 Comments »

It’s always fun to find a great “other half” to a highly-quoted scripture. Frequently the other half unlocks some new revelation of the well-known portion. For me, today’s scripture is an example of that. It comes from Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. » more »

Anxiety

Thursday, 23 September 2010 | 3 Comments »

Had a bizarre bought with anxiety yesterday. I’m not one who typically struggles with it so it’s presence was easily noticeable and NOT appreciated.

I know this is something many people deal with, and I know most of us know the bible says not to be anxious, but I wanted to take a quick peek about what the word says on this topic. Here’s the gist of what I found: » more »

Rejecting Knowledge (Hosea 4:6)

Tuesday, 21 September 2010 | 7 Comments »

As I was reading in Jeremiah the other day, a portion jumped out at me. Let me first set the scene, Jeremiah has been giving the word of the Lord for an extended period of time largely without people acknowledging his words as truth and acting accordingly. » more »

Elohim Yakol (Daniel 3:17)

Friday, 10 September 2010 | 3 Comments »

A dear friend of mine created an art piece with many of the names of God in Hebrew with the English next to it. I have it framed across from the toilet (very spiritual you know) and on occasion when I am there, the Lord will highlight one of His names to me that He wants me to dig into… today it was Elohim Yakol. » more »

Respecter of Persons (James 2)

Thursday, 2 September 2010 | 4 Comments »

There’s a verse in James 2 often quoted where we’re chastened not to be a respecter of persons. The example that corresponds describes two men – one who appears rich and the other poor. I’ve often heard this verse cited as support that what God does for one person, He’ll do for another. I think this appeals to our western ideas of fairness so we embrace this concept. And yet, I’ve wondered… » more »
