Resting in the Still Waters

As I was meditating on the idea of resting in the arms of Almighty, I was given the image of the difference between treading water and simply floating on the surface of water. And what a great difference there is between these two concepts. With the one, you are simply resting and trusting – releasing control, and simply laying back and letting yourself be held. Whereas with the other, you are striving and working hard to try to keep your head above water.

This isn’t to say that there isn’t a moment for each of these things to be the right activity, but to waste your effort and energy striving when you’re being beckoned to simply rest is fruitless and denotes a lack of trust to the One who is beckoning you.

So may we be intentional to rest in the still waters and trust that He is holding us lovingly and firmly in His hands. What safer place could we find that?

Psalm 23:2-3a (VOICE) He provides me rest in rich, green fields beside streams of refreshing water. He soothes my fears; He makes me whole again…
