Relinquishing the Promises of God (Numbers 13)

Today as I read about the spies of Israel scouting out the promised land in Numbers 13, I was saddened to see how quickly they relinquished their promise from God to their fears of the giants (nephilim). I use the word relinquish here intentionally as it means to abandon or forsake.

As I pondered this, I realized how often we do this in our own lives. So today I don’t have some lengthy word study, just a simple question…

What “giants” in your life have you relinquishing the promises of God to you?

I challenge you to find the giants and intentionally root them out and believe God at His word. He is faithful as the Word demonstrates again and again, and as I’ve even seen as He’s written His story in my own life.

Lord I pray for wisdom and discernment to see the giants for what they are – liars that oppose you. Lord forgive us for questioning Your sovereign ability to bring forth all that You’ve promised. Help us to focus our eyes on You that You might be magnified in our lives rather than the giants who stand against us and against Your promises… and ultimately, against You. Help us to remember that You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. We will stand on Your promises and take You at Your word, for You are faithful. All glory and honor be unto You.

  1. Your story is particularly lovely as God continually writes his promises as truth and reality… over and over. This is a good thinking point for all of us, but especially for me. Thanks for sharing.
